grounding
When I first envisioned my prayer garden, I began with a pencil and a blank grid. Since this is a multi-year project, the plans are always growing and changing.
But for this first groundbreaking, I marked the largest focal points, taking into consideration each plant’s eventual height and width. This provided grounding and focus for the design.
I also penciled in smaller plants that I’d read about in magazines and books, though I found that many of them would not grow well in our space.
It is the larger plants we’ve relied upon for grounding.
In many areas of life, we need grounding – our vocation, parenting, relationships - to name a few. The foundation we choose to build our lives upon and around can make all the difference when everyday difficulties begin to crowd in.
What is the most important thing in your life - what grounds you?
Faith in God is always our strongest foundation.
Nothing else is stable amid life’s changing circumstances.
We may try to substitute other temporary ambitions - money, education, career, status - but these will never ground us because they won’t last. They will not hold steady when tomorrow’s trouble arrives.
Only God is unfailing.
Our heavenly Father is steadfast and the only foundation worth building upon.
We must shore up our lives with deep trust in God, knowing that He is unwavering, always and forever.
He grounds our lives with a sure foundation.
For the rest of our lives, this world will continue to be marked by chaos and conflict and fracture.
But when our lives are grounded in the Lord, we can stand firm through any storm.
Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, dear friends!
