just keep singing

As hurricane Helene came roaring through the south, we all witnessed its devastation from Florida to Tennessee.

And in our own small South Carolina town, we witnessed it firsthand. We all had trees uprooted from the ground, lying across houses, roads, power lines and yards, fallen monuments to Helene’s destruction. Many have lost so much.

Nothing has been more horrifying than the stories coming out of western North Carolina and Tennessee: mudslides and houses falling into rivers and hundreds of people missing.

What a devastating catastrophe.

Yet, as I sit in the studio Sunday morning, sunlight streaming through the branches of the fallen tree lying across the skylights, I have the windows open to let in the breeze.

And outside the birds are singing.

They perch on the fallen trees and the massive piles of limbs and the broken parts of the roof. And they just keep singing . . .

They just keep singing.

There is so much deep sorrow and mourning for those lost in the storm and for those devastated who have nothing left. Let us not forget them in this terrible time of need.

For them, we must keep singing.

We cannot let the darkness gain any foothold in its intent to overcome the light. Because we serve the God who rules every part of this world, we know that He is with us in every storm and He is with us in the aftermath. He is with us in the loss and He is with us in the rebuilding.

As we survey this massive devastation, we may begin to catch a glimpse of the miracles He’s brought us through.

Hold those you love a little tighter today.

And just keep singing.

Sing about His comfort. Sing about His strength. Sing about His lovingkindness. Sing about His compassion. Sing because He cares for you so deeply.

Trouble will most certainly always be among us.

But just keep singing.

Today is a GOOD day!

Natalie
