in the waiting
I bought a Butterfly Ginger Lily for my prayer garden back in April. It was small, but healthy. The tag promised fragrant blooms mid to late summer.
I watched and waited as it quickly grew.
While we traveled the month of July, I asked my closest friend to take a picture - but still no flowers. I began to wonder if it was actually going to bloom at all.
And then one day . . . a bud.
And another and another.
I still had to wait several more weeks for the buds to open.
And now THEY HAVE!
The blooms are every bit as lovely and fragrant as promised.
It was well worth the wait.
We wait on so many things. Life stages that begin and end. Promises for a future time. Plans and dreams and aspirations.
Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.
Proverbs 13:12 NIV
We seem to be in a constant state of waiting and longing.
Am I willing to place my dreams and yearnings in the hands of my loving Father and wait in peace?
God is never idle, but is continuously working out His best purposes and plans for our lives - and sometimes that includes periods of waiting.
Here in the wait, we can choose anxious impatience or peace-filled expectancy.
To wait in peace means letting go, laying the waiting before God, and choosing to say, “It’s Yours, Father. Teach me to wait.”
It is acceptance that waiting is part of the plan.
We can learn how to sit in silence before Him and discover that we possess the ability to quietly listen.
A soul that is peacefully at rest reveals a surrendered life that has learned to be satisfied with His perfect will. This kind of peace - His peace - soothes the weary heart.
So if you’re struggling in the wait right now, remember that God is working.
Give Him the outcome knowing that He will never leave your side.
Even in the waiting, all will be well.
Today is a GOOD day!
