Hope to count on

Oh, the early days of parenthood!

I remember when our daughter was just a few months old, Steven and I planned an evening out. We were so looking forward to it! After several months of long nights with a colicky baby, we’d finally have some time to ourselves.

As we dropped our daughter off to stay at Grams and Pop’s, I thought she felt warm. Her face was a bit flushed…and then she began to cry pitifully. She was sick; our night out cancelled. I was so disappointed as we drove home.

We all know what it’s like to look forward to something only to have our plans cancelled at the last moment.

Hope - to cherish a desire with anticipation:

to want something to happen or be true.

Merriam-Webster Dictionary

In most cases, hope has no guarantees. Just because we desire it, doesn’t meant it will immediately come true.

Unless . . . we are speaking of God’s promises. He is always and absolutely faithful. His love and power and presence are guaranteed.

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.

2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV

Hope in Him is a sure thing. Yes and Amen.

While you might reach the end of your patience today, God never will.

While you might not extend compassion today, He always does.

While you might feel alone today, you’re not - He is forever with you.

When speaking of God’s attributes and promises, we can drop words like sometimes, occasionally, now and again. Instead, we can confidently proclaim always, no matter what, with absolute certainty.

So if your life feels confusing lately or if you feel your hope is shaky, remember to focus, not on your circumstances, but on the unwavering promises of God.

His compassion never ceases.

His mercy never ends.

Because placing your hope in God is a for-sure victory.

His love never fails.

Today is a GOOD day,
