Today

A few evenings ago we had a storm that included some remarkably stout wind.

As I looked across our yard the following morning, my heart dropped. The beehive was no longer stacked. The roof and top box were overturned, lying on the muddy ground, the jar of sugar syrup empty nearby.

When I arrived at the hive, I found a cluster of bees inside the small opening of the inner cover - the hole that the syrup jar had covered. These small creatures huddled together; they were protecting their hive from rain.

That afternoon, Steven strapped the hive to the cement blocks underneath.

For the rest of the day I checked on our bees. And then later that week, we opened the hive and found everything as it should be.

I remembered reading about using straps on hives to keep the boxes from toppling. If only…

Then, I worried about our hive's future. What if…

In truth, my focus needed to be on the problem that was right in front of us - what we needed to do now.

Isn’t life often that way?

We come up against a difficulty or tough situation and immediately look to the past and say, If only…

Or maybe we project problems into the future, trying to solve a multitude of complexities that have not even developed. But what if…

Jesus tells us that “Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Who are we to overrule that?

Most of the time we need only focus on now. The problem in front of us. The difficult conversation we’re having. The hard choice we’re making. The situation we’re facing.

The past is gone and cannot be changed; the future is known only unto God who promises His ways and thoughts are higher than ours.

But today - now that’s what we must deal with.

So take all of your today problems to God and see His faithfulness come through for you. Ask for wisdom or patience or peace or an extra dose of compassion. Seek Him now and find that He is already there.

Each day’s trouble comes with the promise of our loving, compassionate God walking with us straight through to the other side.

He is with you right now.

Let today’s trouble be enough for today.

Today is a GOOD day,

~ Natalie
